World Soccer has announced a partnership with ONdigital to produce the first ever UK sports TV masthead programme. The leading international football title, which is owned by IPC, will produce a pre-match programming report for all 16 Champions League matches shown on the ONdigital network.
Titled “World Soccer ON…”, the ten-minute report will include insight into the teams in competition and interviews with journalists from the countries involved. It marks a further strengthening for the magazine which, despite a drop in the latest ABC figures (see January-June 1999 ABCs – Performance By Publisher), has recently launched in Russia and expanded into book publishing.
The news came as the sports rights battle between BSkyB and ONdigital took a turn in ONdigital’s favour as the ITC provisionally concluded that the digital point system does not impede BSkyB from providing Sky Sports 2 to ONdigital, as BSkyB had claimed.
