Managing Director Of London News Radio Quits
Nigel Reeve has quit his position as managing director of London News Radio. Huge changes in the management of the group, which owns two stations in the capital – LBC 1152 AM and News Direct 97.3FM – have forced him from his position.
The changes began when shareholders within the group began to increase their control. Sales shifted to GWR’s Opus earlier this year, making the entire sales team of London News Radio redundant. At the same time ITN took control of programming for the two stations; previously GWR had handled content for LBC (see Opus Takes Sales For London News Radio Stations).
Resigning on Monday, Reeve blamed his diminishing responsibility within the company for his decision: “I have now been with LNR for close to three years. During this time…the image of the company has changed into what is now considered to be a major force in commercial radio…I now feel I have taken the company as far as I can.”
He is believed to be in talks with financial backers with a view to launching his own company but was not available to confirm his plans when contacted by Newsline.
