Telegraph Media Group hires Trinity’s digital lead

Telegraph Media Group has appointed Trinity Mirror’s Malcolm Coles as its new director of digital, where he will be responsible for all of the group’s digital media activity.

Coles, who joined Trinity Mirror in 2011, currently leads the company’s digital arm and is responsible for UsVsTh3m – Trinity Mirror’s BuzzFeed-style website. He will replace Ben Clisset when he leaves at the end of the year and will report to the Telegraph’s director of content, Chris Evans.

The news comes alongside a wider management reshuffle at Telegraph Media Group, which will see the creation of a new senior editorial team.

Coles will join Robert Winnett, deputy editor and deputy director of content, who will be responsible for news online and in print; Allister Heath, deputy editor and deputy director of content, who will oversee business, personal finance, technology and property online and in print; Ian MacGregor, weekend editor, who will also take on the role of director of leisure; and Kate Day, who has been made director of future media.

A new director of lifestyle for magazines, features, fashion, luxury and beauty is yet to be announced.

Commenting on the appointment, Evans said: “These six people will form the senior editorial team who will oversee our transformation into a digital first media newsroom that also produces a fantastic newspaper. I am delighted that Malcolm is joining our team.

“These key appointments will ensure that our content continues to lead the field; both in paper and online.”
