Attic Futura Takes Sugar To The Web With AOL Deal
Attic Futura, publisher of Britain’s biggest-selling teen magazine Sugar, has signed a deal with internet service provider AOL UK to take its magazines to the web. AOL UK members will have access to content from Attic Futura’s Sugar and TV Hits magazines. The deal extends the association between the two companies, created in 1996 when AOL produced an online version of the publisher’s Inside Soap.
Sugar launches on the service on 1 October, the first time it has been available online. Moving a female teen magazine to the Net is timely, as a recent analysis from Fletcher Research shows that there are now more teenage girls than boys online in the UK (see Research Shows More Teenage Girls Than Boys Online). TV Hits is scheduled to launch on AOL UK’s Entertainment channel during December. As well as the online content deal, a number of cross-promotional activities are planned to drive subscriptions to both Sugar and AOL UK.
Clare James, publisher of Sugar, says: “Bringing Sugar to life on AOL is an exciting move for the magazine and a natural extension to the Sugar brand. The area promises to become an exciting interactive environment for all teenage girls.”
