Sky Sports Win TV Rights To US Open Golf

Sky Sports has stepped closer to completing its coverage grand-slam of golf majors by securing the exclusive rights to the US Open for the next five years. The first tournament under the contract will be the year 2000 centennial event from Pebble Peach.

Announcing the deal, Vic Wakeling, managing director of Sky Sports, said: “We now have live golf signed and sealed for the next five years. To say I’m delighted is an understatement – the US Open was not only won against competitive bids, but secured for a longer term than ever before.”

Sky Sports’ golfing portfolio now includes the US PGA Championship, the biennial Ryder Cup, 31 European PGA tournaments as well as 45 events from the US PGA tour. The BBC currently holds the British TV rights to the other two golf majors – the Open Championship and the US Masters.
