TV Sales Companies Discuss Merger
Reports in today’s press suggest that Scottish Television is in discussion with Granada and Meridian Broadcasting about combining their TV airtime sales, a move which would give both of the larger companies a 25% stake in ITV advertising – a potential £400m a year in advertising sales.
STV’s sales arm, TVMM (a joint venture with HTV) sells advertising for both Grampian and Westcountry, making it financially attractive as an acquisition. The talks follow last month’s news that LWT was to take over sales for Yorkshire TV, a stake which had interested Granada for some time.
