Radio Authority Pre-Advertises Channel Island Licences

The Radio Authority is next week inviting declarations of intent to apply for the local radio licences to Guernsey and Jersey. Both licences are for eight year periods starting from October 2000.

The Guernsey licence covers an area with a population of about 50,000, and is currently held by Island FM . The licence for Jersey has coverage of an area with a population of around 70,000, and is currently covered by Channel 103 FM.

Both licences are being ‘pre-advertised’ under the special application procedure in the 1996 Broadcasting Act and the radio watchdog is also welcoming views about the local radio needs of listeners in the licence areas.
