Sky Could Face Legal Action Over News At Ten

Reports are circulating that ITN were planning taking legal action against Sky after the broadcaster announced plans to launch a Sky News At Ten bulletin. ITV is dropping ITN’s News At Ten this Friday, and Sky intends to launch its new 10 o’clock bulletin on Monday. ITN has apparently written to BSkyB claiming that it has the copyright to the title ‘News At Ten.

A spokesperson at Sky however, said that should ITN pursue the matter, it was unlikely to be successful.

Other news at Sky is that Elizabeth Murdoch, managing director of Sky Networks, has appointed Mr Matthew Imi as head of Sky Ventures.

Elizabeth Murdoch said: “Sky Ventures is an increasingly important part of our business and an area to which we attach huge strategic value. Matthew has established a strong working relationship with the channels and our partners and I believe he is the right person to drive Sky Ventures forward in an expanding digital environment.”

Mr Imi joined Sky in 1997 and was previously director of co-productions and sales at BBC Worldwide in New York.
