‘Only 50% Of Adults Observe The TV Watershed’ Says Survey
Only 48% of parents never let their children watch television after the watershed at 9pm, according to the latest survey by Audience Selection. As well as this, up to a quarter of parents ignore the watershed completely.
While 5% of respondents said they only send their children to bed before 9pm on weekdays, 22% of adults surveyed said they only observed the watershed sometimes, and 23% of people said that they never took any notice of it.
Towards the end of January, Robert Biggam, chairman of the Independent Television Commission (ITC), defended the 9 o’clock watershed as “an important and integral part of television infrastructure. The watershed meets the fundamental objective of content regulation, the protection of children” (see Newsline).
