Digital Radio Multiplex Appoints Marketing Manager And Agency

Digital One , the national commercial digital radio multiplex operator owned by NTL and GWR (see Newsline), has appointed a marketing manager. Jeff Astle, 29, takes up the role tomorrow and joins from the GWR group. He will report directly to the Group’s chief executive, Quentin Howard.

The digital radio consortium has also appointed Clarke Hooper as its integrated marketing agency. The agency’s first task will be to put together a Partner Marketing programme for broadcasters, manufacturers and retailers. The function of the programme will be to co-ordinate Digital One’s communications and research activity with that of partner organisations. The operation will be linked to a call centre and a website.

Quentin Hooper commented: “We are looking to build productive, commercial relationships with a whole range of partner companies. We were impressed by Clarke Hooper’s partner marketing expertise and broad media and technology experience.”

The Digital One service is due to launch in Q4 1999 with seven brand new digital only national radio stations and simulcasts of Classic FM, Talk Radio and Virgin.
