United News & Media Reports 12% Rise In TV Ad Revenue

United News & Media is off to a bright start in 1999. According to its AGM statement, the group’s television revenue rose by over 12% in the first quarter of 1999. UNM operates the Anglia, Meridian and HTV ITV franchises, which combined account for 24% of the ITV Network.

The group’s statement commented: “Although we do not expect television advertising to continue to grow at this high rate for the remainder of 1999, the advertising market in the UK and the US is buoyant.”

UNM’s UK and US classified businesses have also seen underlying growth, with rising contributions from new magazine launches. The group’s IT publications experienced a downturn in the latter part of 1998, although there has been no further deterioration in this sector. United News & Media reported slight growth in its financial results at the beginning of last month (see Newsline).
