Meredith Retires As Director Of BARB

The end of an era was marked last night as Bill Meredith, director of BARB for the last eight years, was honoured at a retirement party. Held at the Institute of Directors, the event was attended by a number of the current and former leading figures from the TV and research industries – and your Newsline correspondent.

Bill joined BARB eight years ago after a distinguished career at AGB and has been the voice of BARB for everyone in the research industry ever since. He commented that the one thing he had definitely got right in his career was the timing of his retirement as the television industry embarked on the challenges of a new BARB contract and the researching of digital television.

Mike Kirkham, now MD of Taylor Nelson Sofres (previously AGB), was one of the first people hired by Bill at AGB, and in a brief but entertaining speech he congratulated Bill for his depth of knowledge and his vision (of course) in hiring such talented staff.

Meredith’s retort was that Kirkham edged it as he was cheaper to hire than the one other candidate, who had a degree in laundry.
