Sugar’s latest slaughter on The Apprentice brings in 5.8m
Last night saw the 11th series of BBC One’s The Apprentice (9pm) reach the halfway point as the show about professional nonsense-dispensing finally provided a bit of a shock for viewers – but don’t worry, it was 98% business-as-usual for the rigid format.
Yesterday’s instalment of blame-shifting and cringe-inducing actions saw the lucky 13 remaining competitors face their biggest task yet – to prove they are somewhat useful at the most basic of household tasks.
An audience of 5.8 million tuned in to see a number the bumbling, over confident hopefuls fail drastically at their odd-jobs business, leading to this series’ ‘red wedding’ moment which naturally helped the show top yesterday’s TV Twitter chart.
Lord Sugar’s hugely satisfying triple slaughter secured a 27% share, meaning the latest helping of desperate boardroom accusations easily secured the 9pm slot for BBC One.
[advert position=”left”]Over on ITV, the commercial broadcaster dedicated its two hour prime time slot to another one of those countdown things, with the biggest surprise being that The Nation’s Favourite Beatles Number One (8pm) wasn’t even a repeat.
Despite getting the feeling that we’ve seen it all before, 2.8 million viewers tuned in to argue with the ‘official’ countdown, with plenty of random celebrities on talking head duties to make sure we fully understood what was happening on screen.
In total, an audience share of 13% tuned in for the worthy musical nostalgia-fest.
Over on BBC Two was the second part of Dominic Sandbrook: Let Us Entertain You (9pm), a high-brow clip show highlighting Britain’s output of international pop culture. 691,000 viewers and a 3% share tuned in to basically see lots of clips of James Bond over the years.
Over on Channel 5 was the latest thrilling instalment of sneerfest responsible cautionary tale Can’t Pay? We’ll Take It Away (9pm) which secured 1.4 million viewers and a 7% share.
Over on Channel 4, Kevin McCloud’s search for the Grand Designs: House of the Year (9pm) continued as the second episode took at look at urban builds, netting 1.6 million viewers and a 7% share.
At 10pm it was time for the el Dude brothers to return for one last run of seriously wrong adventures. The beginning of Peep Show‘s end was nigh as the ninth series in 11 years found our heroes living separate lives, still recovering from the Dobby love triangle debacle of three years ago.
The premier episode of the cult hit secured an audience of 1.1 million viewers, a 6% share and was the fourth most tweeted about show of the day.
Earlier at 8pm, BBC One’s refreshing cop show Cuffs was watched by 3.3 million viewers and a 16% share while MasterChef: The Professionals bagged 3 million viewers and a 15% share on BBC Two.
ITV’s two soap offerings secured the top spots of the day with Emmerdale (7pm) bringing in 5.9 million viewers and a 32% share while Coronation Street (7:30pm) netted 6.5 million viewers and a 33% share.
