I’m a Celeb cat fight sees The Apprentice hit series low

After treating TV audiences to a short respite by taking Tuesday night off, yesterday saw ITV’s I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! return to once again pull in the day’s biggest audience as Lady Colin Campbell’s irrational targeting system locked onto a bewildered Chris Eubank.

Wednesday night’s helping of hungry TV presenters, reality stars and a bat-shit crazy socialite saw camp mates given the chance of winning each other’s meals, all the while in another camp an unholy trinity of TOWIE, Geordie Shore and Made in Chelsea ‘personalities’ was forming.

7.4 million viewers tuned in to see deranged ‘Lady C’ freely disrepute her opinions at the worst possible moments, with visible homicidal thoughts flashing behind many camp mates glared-over eyes.

The fun sting of events, which saw the assumed aristocrat ruin dinner and then a fire with her meddling, resulted in a 33% share and topped the TV Twitter chart.

Despite the overpowering gravitational pull of ITV’s jungle fun, somehow BBC One’s The Apprentice managed to not get too hammered in the ratings.

The latest episode about professional cringe-extractors saw the Great Lord of Sugar task the two teams with selling complete tat in some pop up shops, which seemingly was yet another excuse to remind the audience about his profiteering roots.

The competition opened up six weeks ago with 6.4 million viewers, with last week’s latest example of ineptitude bagging a series average of 5.8 million viewers.

Last night’s desperate display of pushing naff products on bewildered citizens saw the audience fall to 5 million viewers – by far the lowest this series, with the particularly fraught boardroom scenes helping the show net a 22% share.

At the same time BBC Two’s look at the UK’s influence on pop culture, Dominic Sandbrook: Let Us Entertain You (9pm) fell to 601,000 viewers and a 3% share.

Channel 4 offered up some more envy entertainment with the third episode of Grand Designs: House of the Year (9pm) with the way-better-than-your-gaff builds bringing in 1.2 million viewers and a 5% share.

Can’t Pay? We’ll Take It Away (9pm) was Channel 5’s prime time feature, with the overwhelming grimness taking in an audience of 907,000 viewers and a 4% share.

Earlier at 8pm, BBC One’s hard-hitting pre-watershed seaside police drama Cuffs secured 3.4 million viewers and a 16% share while MasterChef: The Professionals (8pm) on BBC Two was watched by 2.9 million and a 14% share.

On ITV at 8pm, Phillip Schofield was back doing what he does best, dispensing large amounts of tea time cheese to an eager audience.

The latest episode of cruise ship-level entertainment All Star Mr & Mrs was watched by 3.5 million viewers, with the exciting premise of seeing Cheryl Baker dragging her old man on TV resulting in a 17% share.

Much less thrilling was Restoring Britain’s Landmarks on Channel 4 which attracted 1.1 million viewers and a 5% share while Channel 5’s GPs: Behind Closed Doors (8pm) bagged 1.2 million viewers and a 6% share.

In the realms of soap, yesterday saw ITV hold centre stage with Emmerdale netting 6.1 million viewers and a 31% share at 7pm while Coronation Street secured 6.8 million viewers and a 34% share at 7:30pm.
