Series 3 of The Trip to air on Sky

After two highly successful and critically acclaimed series on the BBC, the third outing of The Trip, starring Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon, will be served on Sky Atlantic.

Created and directed by Michael Winterbottom for Revolution Films, The Trip to Spain will see Coogan and Brydon’s fictionalised versions of themselves on yet another culinary journey as they head off on a road trip from the North Atlantic to the Mediterranean coast.

The show last aired on BBC Two in April and May 2014, with Brydon and Coogan touring Italy, following in the footsteps of English poets in the early 19th century. However, Sky Atlantic, working directly with Coogan’s own production company Baby Cow, has secured the rights to the latest series, which will begin filming later this year.

Sky has also recently poached another Coogan comedy from the BBC, picking up Alan Partridge after three series on BBC Two.

The new series, Alan Partridge’s Mid Morning Matters, will begin tomorrow night on Sky Atlantic at 10pm.

“Having thought long and hard about yet another sojourn into culinary distractions and middle age, I have reluctantly agreed to Eviva Espana,” said Coogan. “I have a hole in my diary, there will be free food and accommodation and Rob Brydon is surprisingly good company. I also like Michael.”

Zai Bennett, director of Sky Atlantic, said: “The Trip is as close to perfection as you get in comedy. It’s a rare chance to watch comic masters, totally authoring their work with creative freedom.

“It’s an absolutely perfect fit for Sky Atlantic. We are very happy to ensure that this award-winning comedy will continue building on the channel’s relationships with Steve, Rob and Revolution Films showcasing our continued investment in top-flight original comedy.”
