Carlton Makes Late Bid For Horseracing Rights

Carlton Communications has made a last-minute bid for the British horseracing broadcasting rights, according to reports. The group is believed to have offered £400m for the TV, internet and interactive rights for a 10-year period.

Channel 4 withdrew its £250 bid for the new package of rights earlier this year amid factualism within the racing industry and put on hold its plans to launch a dedicated racing channel (see Channel 4 Withdraws Its Bid For Horse Racing Rights). Carlton’s proposal tops an earlier offer from Arena Leisure, owner of six racing tracks and set to bag the rights package with a £320m bid.

Carlton was not commenting on reports today.
