GWR Signs 12 Year Transmission Deal With NTL
GWR Group has signed a 12 year transmission contract with NTL for a large share of its local network. The agreement sees ownership of the transmitter equipment for stations concerned to NTL transfer from GWR to NTL, which will now provide the total transmission service for the radio group, including 52 transmitters.
GWR head of engineering Tim Donaldson said, “This is a very good move for the GWR Group. NTL have, with us, devised a highly resilient system, and with the capital investment that they will be making in the network, offer us a refurbishment plan which they will manage for us.” The investment being made over the next 18 months is said to be £1.8m, and the deal will see all GWR’s old valved transmitters replaced with a new backed up system along with the refurbishment of aerial systems and generators.
The GWR group currently owns 32 local FM and AM stations across the country. When the refurbishment programme is completed, GWR is expected to get a guaranteed 99.9% availability of its transmission base.
