Bright Station To Buy Boo Infrastructure
Bright Station has stepped forward to help save the fate of two recent internet failures. The web solutions and e-commerce company formerly known as Dialog, is to buy the technology side of online sports retailer boo.com and is part of a consortium rescue package for technology news service Netimperative.
Boo.com collapsed last week through lack of funds, the first of the high profile online retailers to experience the volatility of the new economy. Bright Station said today that it would buy the group’s e-commerce technology assets for an undisclosed sum.
The assets will be integrated into its existing e-commerce technology business, Sparza, adding a b2c element to its current b2b model. The group is also in advanced discussions to take on some of boo’s staff, who are currently advertising themselves on postboo.com.
Andy Dancer, chief technology officer of Bright Station e-commerce solutions, said: “Boo’s technology solution is the result of a massive investment programme and is widely acknowledged as a state of the art consumer e-commerce solution. We have been able to pick it up for a fraction of its development cost.”
The group has also put forward a share of a £1 million rescue package for NetImperative, which will be retained intact. BrightStation’s contribution is less than 10% of the whole, the bulk of the money coming from the Internet Business Group and StockHouse Media Corporation.
