Paul Cassar has been appointed chief digital officer of Hearst Magazines UK.
Currently vice president of international operations at digital publishing company Say Media, Cassar will be responsible for driving Hearst’s digital audience and revenues.
He will report into CEO Anna Jones and work closely with the publisher’s chief revenue officer Duncan Chater.
“Paul is an exceptional talent and the perfect candidate to lead the next stage of Hearst’s digital development,” Jones said.
“He has an entrepreneurial approach, is highly collaborative and commercially savvy. His vision and expertise will be instrumental in continuing to propel the business forwards and the combination of Duncan and Paul puts Hearst on a very sure footing for 2017.”
Prior to Say Media, which he joined in 2008, Cassar ran the national sales operation at Canadian newspaper company Communications Voir.
He replaces Darren Goldsby, who has decided to leave the business at the start of next year to work on several digital start-up projects.
Cassar, who begins his new role in January 2017, added: “Hearst UK is a fantastic digital business and I am thrilled to be joining at a time when there are so many opportunities to further accelerate its growth.
“We will be investing more heavily in content and video, and have ambitious plans to increase our offering for commercial partners.”
Hearst currently publishes brands including Cosmopolitan, Good Housekeeping, ELLE and Harper’s Bazaar.
