Trinity Mirror Announces Advertising Revenue Growth In First Quarter
The Mirror and Sunday Mirror have put on 5% in year on year advertising revenues in the first four months of 2000. These figures were announced by Trinity Mirror chairman Sir Victor Blank at the group’s AGM yesterday.
Blank also said that the Racing Post had achieved double digit growth in advertising revenues, while the regional titles’ had increased by 8%. Classified advertising revenues are said to be up 10%, including recruitment advertising revenue which is up 21%.
In March this year the group sold the Belfast Telegraph to Independent News & Media (see Trinity Mirror Sells Belfast Telegraph To Independent), with the intention of using revenues to invest in its new media assets including the portal ic24. Around £5m has been invested in a rebranding campaign for ic24 (see Trinity Mirror New Media Spends £5m On ic24 Re-Brand), which included direct marketing, posters and TV media.
Trinity Mirror said yesterday that the campaign had so far attracted 95,000 new net registrations, representing a 44% increase since the beginning of March this year. Active customers numbered just over 310,000 at the end of April. The group said yesterday that it expected to bring that figure to 1m in the next 12 months. Other targets include achieving 100m page impressions per month and annual revenue for 2000 of £7m.
