BBC News Online Signs To Supply Content For Yahoo!
BBC News Online is to supply content to Yahoo! UK. No money is exchanging hands in the deal, whereby Yahoo! will be supplied with top stories from the BBC’s UK, British politics, world, business, sport and science and technology news service sections. In return the BBC will introduce more people to its service, which is the most successful internet news site outside the US, while retaining full editorial independence.
There will be strict conditions on presentation due to the BBC’s status as a public broadcaster. This means no pages featuring BBC news can show banner adverts, although adverts will be only one click away. In order to maintain the efficiency of Yahoo! pages, BBC content will also have its multimedia content removed.
The BBC gets around 75m audited page views per month for its news sites, while Yahoo! has more than 210m. It is thought that other, similar, deals between the BBC and new media organisations are also being discussed.
