ITC To Review Rules On Comparative Advertising

ITC To Review Rules On Comparative Advertising

The Independent Television Commission (ITC) is to review its rules on comparative advertising and denigration. The regulatory body has issued a consultation paper on proposed amendments to its code in the light of the adoption by the UK of the EC directive on comparative advertising.

Comparative advertising has been allowed on UK television for many years and is subject to essentially the same rules contained in the directive. However there are some elements of the directive not covered by current regulations, and it is proposed that the requirements of these provision be added to the existing ITC code.
