Public Does Not Want MP’s Pressure On ITV To Return News At Ten

A year after ITV made the decision to ditch the News At Ten, CIA MediaLab’s Sensor survey has found that 29% of people would like to see it return, and 30% claim to miss it. However, the public does not support parliamentary pressure on ITV to bring the bulletin back, with only 6% agreeing with this course of action.

Last week the Commons Select Committee for culture, media and sport called for the return of News At Ten, increasing pressure on the Independent Television Commission (ITC) to oppose the new schedule when the watchdog’s review is published (see MPs Push For Return Of News At Ten). ITV replaced the ten o’clock news bulletin with two new news programmes, one at 6:30pm and one at 11:00pm, and hoped to use the space freed up in the schedule to show audience-pulling dramas and films.

The ITC is currently conducting a review of the performance of ITV’s new evening schedule and is expected to report its results in May (see Smith Urges ITC To Perform Rigorous Review Of New ITV Schedule).
