The Wireless Group is set to launch a new radio station for Greater Manchester. Big 1458AM will target 30-50 year-old men with a mixture of rock music, easy listening and sport.
The group currently owns two Big branded stations in West Yorkshire and Staffordshire/Cheshire, which launched in January this year. The new station will be launched on 2 May and will broadcast on the frequency presently occupied by Lite FM, another Wireless Group-owned station, which will cease broadcasting.
Ashley MacKenzie, the Wireless Group’s managing director of ILR’s, said: “The Big format is a major development in UK broadcasting and adds substantially to the commercial radio landscapes. As the number one market outside London, Manchester is a particularly attractive city to cover.”
