Sun Starts Price War

Rupert Murdoch’s top selling tabloid, The Sun, has begun a price war amongst its competitors by announcing a cut of 5p to 20p, the biggest drop ever by a British newspaper. The paper hopes to carry the cut throughout the summer. In retaliation the Daily Mirror has issued a one-day drastic price cut to 10p (cut of 17p).

At 20p the Sun is now 7p cheaper than the Mirror, 10p less than the Daily Mail and Daily Express and 5p cheaper than Today and the Daily Star. Editor Kelvin McKenzie has claimed that the paper is willing to cut the coverprice to 15p if any of its competitors follow suit.
