ITC Appoints New Chief Executive

ITC Appoints New Chief Executive

The Independent Television Commission (ITC) has appointed Patricia Hodgson as its new chief executive. Currently director of public policy at the BBC, she will take up the position at the beginning of September, replacing Peter Rogers, who announced his retirement last year (see ITC Begins Search For New Chief Executive).

Sir Robin Biggam, chairman of the ITC, said of the appointment: “I am delighted Patricia has agreed to join us, succeeding Peter Rogers who has made a unique contribution to regulation in the commercial broadcasting sector during his period as chief executive.”

Hodgson competed with Greg Dyke for the position of director-general at the BBC last year and there has been speculation that since he took up the post Hodgson has seen a diminishment of her responsibilities at the Corporation. However she said of her new position: “Leaving the BBC will not be easy; but the post of chief executive at the ITC is extremely attractive. It will give me the opportunity of playing a broader role – taking commercial broadcasting into the digital age – which I will relish.”
