Sky Launches New Sports News Service

Sky Sports will launch its latest sports news service today. Skysports.comTV was available from 6am to digital subscribers and has been designed to act as a companion to the online service at www.skysports.com. The new channel will replace Sky Sports News , from which it evolved.

Viewers will see the main broadcast image surrounded by graphics containing news headlines, breaking stories, statistics, reminders and a clock. However, the service is not interactive, nor does it offer on-line access through the TV. Vic Wakeling, managing director of Sky Sports commented: “People are comfortable with using different mediums to gather the facts that interest them. Now viewers can catch all the main stories whenever they join us.”

The new channel’s programming will retain the popular elements of Sky Sports News, including Nike-sponsored Good Morning Sports Fans, Fox Sport News and Gillette Soccer Saturday, which is simulcast on the Sky Sports Website.
