Guardian Appoints New MD, Improves Its Website

The Guardian Media Group has announced today the appointment of Carolyn McCall as managing director designate of Guardian Newspapers. She will replace Caroline Marland who is due to retire at the end of November.

The news came as the group unveiled changes to its network of websites under the banner GuardianUnlimited. With the aim of strengthening and focusing its news service, NewsUnlimited will now be renamed Guardian Unlimited, with changes to the homepage planned to improve navigation.

A marketing campaign is planned for the site and the group is currently on the lookout for an advertising agency.

The group’s Sunday title, the Observer, has launched its own website at www.observer.co.uk .

The new MD (designate), Carolyn McCall, said of the plans: “Guardian Unlimited has enjoyed a period of immense success. The announcements today are just the beginning of an exciting period of internet development for the division and we will be investing both financially and in terms of commitment to ensure we keep ahead in the fast-moving part of our media business.”
