The Guardian Media Group is to become official media sponsor for the Manchester 2002 Commonwealth Games. The group, which publishes the Guardian, Observer and the Manchester Evening News, signed a £12 million deal with two other unnamed sponsors last night.
The group will be responsible for publications and website material for the Games, which will be the biggest sports event in Britain since the 1948 Olympics.
