SMG has launched a website to back its bid for a new radio station licence for the East Midlands. Listen2liquid.com is designed to introduce the potential audience to the services of Liquid FM, and includes features, listings,a daily news service for the local area and samples of the music it will play.
SMG Radio’s business development director, Bobby Hain, said: “Liquid FM is an exciting format which will be new for the East Midlands. The website means that you don’t have to wait for the station to find out what it is about. There is a real commitment to the East Midlands which can be seen by the amount of local content already on the site.”
If successful in its bid, Liquid will aim for the under-30s market and reflect local youth culture. To this end, the station intends to feature new music by local bands, who are already being given the opportunity to showcase their music on the website, and broadcast live gigs and club events.
The Radio Authority will close bidding for the East Midlands licence early next year and are expected to come to a decision by 2002. If the SMG bid succeeds, the company expects Liquid to launch in Autumn 2002.
