RAJAR: Continued Success For National Commercial Radio

National Commercial radio continued to increase its reach this quarter, as year on year analysis revealed gains for Classic FM and talkSPORT. Classic FM, which recently reported its first full year’s profit, saw a 6.3% year on year increase in reach, while talkSPORT, which experienced significant gains last quarter, saw an 8.3% increase during this one.

The BBC continued to see a significant boost to Radio 2’s reach this quarter with year on year gains of 19.4%. Radio 5, having seen losses last quarter, pulled back with a healthy 6.4% increase. Radio 3 saw a year on year gain of 2.8%.

Radio 2 also saw gains in terms of share this quarter, with year on year analysis showing that its percentage share of listening had risen by 1.7 percentage points. Radio 5, which only managed a modest rise last quarter, saw share increase 0.4 percentage points this quarter. However there were losses at the other BBC stations with Radio 1 dropping 1.6 percentage points.

It was a successful quarter in terms of share for National Commercial radio stations, with talkSPORT and The New Atlantic 252, which has recently been sold and is to change to a sports station,  both seeing a year on year increase of 0.2 percentage points. Classic FM also saw share rise by 0.1 percentage points this quarter.
