1 Million Now Subscribe To NTL Digital

NTL has confirmed that it now has 1m digital subscribers and is on track to meet its target of 1.25m by the end of the year.

The announcement establishes NTL as a serious contender to ITV Digital which recently rebranded from ONdigital in an attempt to attract viewers.

NTL hope that the increasing popularity of interactive and email services, which are now available to 90% of digital subscribers, will continue to be an incentive to potential customers.

NTL estimates that customers use interactive services 2.7m times each week for an average of nine minutes per session and that in total 30 minutes are spent using NTL’s interactive content per household per week. They also claim that 59% of NTL subscribers use interactive services compared with 39% of Sky Digital subscribers using Open.

Managing director of NTL, Stephen Carter, said: “This is another example of our business and the cable industry coming of age.”

The news comes at a welcome time for the company which has been under pressure to reduce its expenditure recently with investors showing increasing concern over the company’s £12bn debt burden.
