Desmond Hires Radio Executive

Richard Desmond, owner of the Express newspaper group, has hired Richard Park, former Capital Radio executive.

Park left Capital, where he was programme director, in March last year after 13 years with the group. He oversaw the launch of Capital Gold and is credited with playing a key role in Capital’s expansion throughout Britain.

Park will act as a consultant to Northern & Shell, the company that owns the Express group, and his appointment has fuelled speculation about what Desmond’s next move will be.

A spokesperson for the company today said: “Mr Desmond has stated categorically in recent interviews that he intends to expand Northern & Shell and the appointment of Richard Park will undoubtedly be seen as a sign that he intends to move into radio.”

Desmond acquired the Express group last November for £125m (see Gossip And Girlie Publisher Takes On Express And Star).
