Natmags Cuts Company’s Cover Price

Natmags is cutting the price of Company magazine to £1.50 in an attempt to boost sales in an increasingly competitive market.

From November, the magazine which currently sells at £2.60, will cost the same as Condé Nast’s Glamour, which launched with great success in March (see Handbag-Sized Glamour Proves Big Success).

Company’s deputy managing director, Duncan Edwards, said: “We are now facing intense competition from new entrants to the market, which have chosen to come in at an astonishingly low price. To protect our position therefore, we have no option but to drop the price.”

Company is far behind Glamour in terms of circulation, achieving 223,121 in the latest ABC results against Glamour‘s 451,486 (see Glamour Makes Stunning 450,000 ABC Debut), but Company‘s publishing director, Justine Southall said: “We feel confident that the cover price change will follow through with an increase in sales.”

The move comes a month after Condé Nast made what it called a “long term commitment” to Glamour‘s success in the women’s magazine market, by guaranteeing that the title’s cover price remains below that of its competitors for the next five years (see Condé Nast To Keep Glamour Cheap).
