New Magazine Launched For Scottish Business Community

Following the launch of Scottish financial newspaper, Business am last year (see Launches Brief), Scotland’s business community will now be targeted in magazine format, with UP Magazine. The first publication from newly-formed publishing company MHP Associates, the 80-page monthly magazine is aimed at entrepreneurs and fast-growing companies north of the border.

The cover price for the magazine will be £2.95 and the initial print run was 15,000. The target audience will be the company’s targeted reader database, which has been drawn from databases including the Entrepreneural Exchange database, Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year database, the PwC Fast-Track 100 database, the Deloitte & Touche Fast 50 database and several others.

The print version launched this week simultaneously with an online version. Editor John Hatfield, previously of the Investor’s Chronicle, the Scotsman and Scotland on Sunday, said, “The website will combine a traditional online magazine with an extensive archive, providing a complete business development service. Visitors will have realtime access to information on everything from writing a business plan, to dealing with the taxman to finishing up – selling the business on.”

Although the magazine will include editorial on new technologies, in deference to the growth of this sector within the Scottish business community, Hatfield is keen to stress that it will primarily cover the “entrepreneurial community”. The aim is to extend into the rest of the UK in January 2002.
