Sky Sports Scores New Three Year Cricket Contract
Cricket continues to move away from its traditional BBC home with the England and Wales Cricket Board’s (ECB) decision to award Sky Sports a new three year contract for live international and county cricket.
Under the new deal, which covers the next three seasons, Sky Sports will have exclusive live broadcast rights to cricketing events including; all England NatWest one day internationals, Benson and Hedges Cup matches and matches from the Cheltenham and Gloucester Trophy. The group also plans live interactive coverage of events for its digital viewers (see BBC And Sky Team Up For Interactive Wimbledon Broadcasts).
Announcing the new deal ECB commercial director Terry Blake said; “Sky Sports and Channel 4 have been excellent partners of ours and I congratulate them for their success in modernising the broadcast of televised cricket.”
