Sport First, the UK’s national sports newspaper, is to increase its sale period from Sunday to Tuesday from this weekend. Previously on sale on Sundays only, the new arrangement will give readers extra time to purchase the title.
Neil Webster, managing director of Sport First, said: “We have decided to increase our on sale period following recent tests, discussion with the newstrade and consultation with Mail Newspapers circulation department. We will ensure that plenty of copies are distributed to key commuter retail outlets as well as our normal distribution pattern.”
The news comes as the title announced a 200% increase in ad revenues during 2000. In particular, growth was seen across the bookmaking, motoring and media categories and the paper’s new classified section.
Nick Solari, head of the group’s in-house sales team, said: “Our revenue is a real reflection of the increased levels of confidence that both clients and agencies are starting to have in the targeting opportunities offered by Sport First in reaching a young, affluent, mid-market sports mad audience.”
