Classic FM, the station which boasts that it broadcasts “the world’s most beautiful music” came on air this morning at 6am with Nick Bailey hosting the first programme.
The breakfast show was introduced by Irish broadcaster, Henry Kelly, who is mixing Bach and Brahms with gig guides and competitions.
The first advertiser on the station was Barclays Bank, with others including Time Magazine, Sony, Kleenex and EMI.
2.30pm Presenter of Classic FMs Drivetime show Petroc Trelawny told MediaTel today that the first day at the station was going “remarkably well.” Everything went according to plan following the intial news bulletin at 6am including a huge response to Henry Kelly’s “Hum Line” where listeners get the chance to hum along to a piece of classical music, and guess the tune.
Trelawny sees a bright future for the station, which hopes to attract a listenership of 2.8 million, and he comments optimistically; “We’ve started and hopefully we’ll go on forever.”
