H Bauer’s ‘Project Helena’ Unveiled

H Bauer has announced details of its new glossy for women. The magazine, which was codenamed Project Helena, is called Real, and will launch on 3 April with an initial print run of 900,000.

Its frequency will be fortnightly, a unique concept in the UK women’s market but a common feature amongst European titles. The group is confident it will have a similar success to some of its European counterparts, such as German title Brigitte, which has a circulation of 925,000 and thus its initial print run is one of the highest ever for a magazine.

A mixture of real life features, fashion and women’s interest articles, it will combine an upmarket feel with the depth of the weeklies market. It will be edited by Janice Turner and journalists signed up to contribute include Julie Burchill, Toby Young and Kirsty Lang.

“Throughout our research women repeatedly said the same thing: “We like the look and fell of glossy magazines but we want something to read.” With Real they will get both because not only does it look beautiful it’s also a great read from cover to cover,” said Louise Newton, publishing director of H Bauer.
