Guardian Unlimited Gets Political
Guardian Unlimited has launched its political website at guardian.co.uk/politics, providing breaking news, exclusive commentary and analysis, games and gossip. Edited by Julian Glover and published by Benjamin Wegg-Prosser, it claims to be the most comprehensive source of political information on the net as the country prepares for a general election.
One of its main features is a database called Ask Aristotle which brings together political information both current and archival. It allows users to search for their local candidates and track MP’s records and the government’s performance in their area as well as view posters and articles from previous elections.
Alan Rusbridger, editor of the Guardian, said: “Like every other part of our lives the internet is changing the established political system; the US presidential election, the petrol crisis and the May Day protests are examples of this. This new site will put the Guardian at the forefront of UK political coverage on the net, and will build on Guardian Unlimited’s established position as a leader in new media.”
