Digital Radio Group Wins Third London Multiplex
The Digital Radio Group (DRG) has succeeded in its bid to become the holder of the third digital multiplex licence to be awarded for the Greater London area (see Digital Radio Group Joined By New Shareholders For London Bid). The DRG bid promised services for diverse groups of listeners including young people, the gay community, young Asians and Afro-Carribeans.
The leader of the consortium, Labour peer Waheed Alli said, “DRG will aspire to enfranchise the minorities. The range of services that will now be available to the 8.5m potential audience are second to none. Our research has proved viability of the market place and the choice of our services.”
The award will see 11 services become available by Christmas this year, including nine which are new to London. The DRG consortium line up includes, among others, GWR Group, the Wireless Group and SMG.
