John Brown’s Bare May Close Unless Buyer Found
![]()
Highbrow healthstyle magazine Bare is said to be set for closure unless publishers John Brown can find a buyer for it by the end of this week.
The title, which comes out every two months, was launched in August last year (see First Issue Review: Bare- ‘Wealthstyle’ from John Brown Publishing), aimed at a higher-spending, older women’s market than current health titles such as Natmag’s Zest. Despite investment in the launch which included a mini-magazine placed in the Observer (see Bare Gets Pre-Launch Exposure In The Observer), it is thought that the title (yet to register an ABC audit) has failed to reach a sustainable circulation and is therefore ill-equipped to survive the expected deepening of the ad revenue decline.
Bare was the only title in the John Brown consumer stable not to be bought by James Brown’s IFeelGood publishing last week (see I Feel Good Makes Bid For Viz Publishers). The founding father of the lad’s mag movement did not think the title fitted into the IFG portfolio, which has now been swelled by John Brown titles including Viz and Bizarre.
