Promotions At Channel 4 Strengthen Commercial Brands

Channel 4 has promoted Polly Cochrane to managing director of marketing and commercial development, as part of a plan to strengthen its network of commercial brands. The move also sees the promotion of Bill Griffin to head of marketing and Lisa Green to head of 4 Creative. In her new role, Cochrane, who currently oversees all on and off-air marketing for Channel 4’s core service, will extend her responsibility to include management of the channel’s commercial brand extensions; which include books, CD’s and videos. Cochrane will report to 4 Ventures new managing director Rob Woodward on commercial development, while continuing to answer to director of strategy and development, David Brook, on brand and marketing matters. Brook said, “By bringing Commercial Development under the umbrella of Channel 4 we aim to strengthen the 4 network of brands, ensuring that every extension of our brand helps to develop Channel 4.” Bill Griffin will step in to Cochrane’s old post, overseeing the creative delivery of marketing strategy, while Lisa Green will be responsible for the growth of 4 Creative, encouraging creative work both within Channel 4 and also for external clients. Both will report to Cochrane. Cochrane said: “It is my intention to ensure that the closer relationship with marketing brings benefits to both the independent production companies who supply Channel 4’s programmes and the channel itself. It will now be easier to consider products as part of integrated brand campaigns for programmes.” Commercial development, which is now part of 4 Ventures Limited, develops Channel 4’s commercial brand extensions via non broadcast media. Previously managed by Sue Oriel, the department was established in 1998 and showed a turnover of £7.6m last year.
