National Newspaper NRS Round-Up – April 2001
Readership of national newspapers dropped by 2.1% year on year for the period November-April 2001, according to the latest figures from the NRS.
Worst hit was the Daily Express, which saw a fall of 19.3% compared to the same period last year. The Guardian’s readership slipped below the 1m mark and fellow broadsheet the Independent on Sunday, which recently lost high profile editor Janet Street-Porter, fell 16%.
Sister paper, the Independent had a better time during this period, registering an increase in readership of 7.3%. The Financial Times put on a similar show with a 7.1% increase in a year on year comparison.
