FT Launches Mobile Phone News Service

The Financial Times is to launch a daily news service which will be delivered to customers via their mobile phones. The daily business information service or “Daily Me” will enable users to access stories from the Financial Times and its online counterpart FT.com.

The FT mobile package, produced in conjunction with The Carphone Warehouse, will offer a choice of WAP enabled phones and provide SMS text updates which can be personalised to ensure users receive only relevant market reports and share quotes. Users can then telephone a special number to hear the full stories.

The group’s chief executive, Stephen Hill said: “This is the first of several services the FT Group will launch this year. Our aim is to cut through the clutter and focus on what is really important to the business person.”

The service has received over 6000 advanced registrations and was created in response to an NOP study of UK executives which found that business people spend over an hour a day searching for relevant news and facts. Over 60% of those surveyed felt that tailored information would help them to do a better job.
