TiVo Strikes Channel Highlights Deal With UKTV

Personal video recorder (PVR) manufacturer, TiVo, has signed a channel highlights deal with UKTV.

UKTV will be the fourth broadcaster to run a TiVo highlights channel, with services from BSkyB, BBC and Channel 4 already up and running. TiVo says that this, the second advertising partnership to be announced in the last four months: “Demonstrates a commitment from key industry players to develop and invest in the PVR market.”

UKTV’s general manager and director of new media, David Dorans, said: “UKTV is continually developing relationships to provide viewers with access to our channels’ content in new and more innovative ways. This new agreement with TiVo shows that UKTV is embracing the future of TV which we believe is in PVR’s.”

The channel highlights system enables TiVo viewers to obtain reviews of future programmes on UKTV’s entertainment channel, UK Gold. Viewers can “tag” the programmes they want to watch which will then be recorded by the PVR when they air. The system can create a personalised viewing schedule by analysing viewing preferences and recording similar programmes.

TiVo has launched a new “user friendly” service which features programming recommendations from RadioTimes. Vice President for TiVo UK, Andrew Cresci, said: “The redesign of Inside TiVo enables viewers to easily find and record niche programmes which are based on their personal viewing preferences enabling them to create a more personalised viewing experience.”
