Sky Beats ITV In Prime Time Ratings For First Time

Sky One achieved a higher viewing share than ITV during prime time viewing for the first time ever last Sunday evening. Unofficial live ratings have revealed that a new episode of The Simpsons at 6:30pm was watched by 1.56m viewers, a 15% audience share within multichannel homes, while ITV’s ITN Early Evening News, local news and local programming only achieved 966,000 viewers, or a 10% share at the same time.
The high rating new episode was preceded by a Simpsons repeat at 6pm, which also achieved a higher rating than ITV, with 12% share or 1.12m viewers. Mark Sharman, director of broadcasting at Sky, said, “The Simpsons go from strength to strength. They will be a major part of Sky One’s future.”
