Radio Authority Receives 16 Applications For Yorkshire Licence
The Radio Authority received sixteen applications for the new regional licence for South and West Yorkshire, in time for the deadline on 6 February. The licence covers an adult population of around 2.5m and includes the cities of Sheffield, Leeds and Bradford.
Martin Fry, lead singer of ABC, and Robin Smith, president of the Yorkshire County Cricket Club are board members on one of the bid proposals, Y107, a music-based station targeting the “Live Aid” Generation. The station is owned by Yorkshire Regional Radio, a subsidiary of GWR.
Other proposed services include The Arrow from Chrysalis; Forever 106 from Forever Broadcasting; Jazz FM Yorkshire; Saga Radio and Deja Vu Radio, both targeting the older listener; Variety FM and Yorkshire FM Radio.
