Trinity Mirror Considers Sale Of ic24

Trinity Mirror is believed to be in discussions regarding the sale of its internet service provider, ic24. The regional publishing group is considering a sell-off of the ISP as part of an overall restructuring of the company.

According to reports in the Guardian, a sell-off of its magazines and exhibitions division is also a possibility as the group seeks a clearer company strategy. Rising newsprint prices and a weak advertising market are expected to eat into the group’s profits this year (see Trinity Mirror Releases Pre-Results Trading Statement)

ic24 launched as a consumer ISP and portal in April 1999 as newspaper publishers raced to get online (see Mirror Launches New Free Net Access Portal). It has been successful, with subscription levels of around 790,000, and a network of sites has been built around the ic24 brand, most recently a showbiz website, icshowbiz (see Trinity Mirror Launches Showbusiness Website).

The company is expected to retain ownership of the network of sites as well as its other online assets, sportinglife.com and totalbet.com.
