C5 Takes Stake In Surpriseyourwoman.com
Channel 5 has taken a stake in online venture Surpriseyourwoman.com in return for advertising. The broadcaster is to receive a 5% stake in the company, which alerts men to anniversaries and allows them to buy presents online.
In return the website, which launched today, will be given £750,000 of free advertising on the channel, across a 20-week campaign. Targeting 20-40 year old men in time for Valentine’s Day, it sells gifts and holidays as well as offering relationship advice. Further brands in the series are believed to be at a planning stage and include Surpriseyourmother.com and Surpriseyourcat.com.
Today’s cash-for-equity deal is one of a number of such partnership struck between Channel 5 and internet companies.
